Frequently Asked Questions

BeaconGrid solutions include hardware devices and licenses for the BeaconGrid service.

What does a license include?

Licenses include ongoing aspects of the BeaconGrid service, such as technical support, data, cloud-hosted software, historical data storage, firmware upgrades, and ongoing software feature releases and bug fixes.

Does BeaconGrid charge per-feature or per-user fees?

No. Licenses are simple, transparent, and all-inclusive, without hidden fees.

How are licenses sold?

BeaconGrid licenses are sold on a "per-sensor, per-year" basis. Each customer organization is licensed for a certain number of devices through a termination date. For example, BG-WB-series work with WB licenses.

Licenses are pre-paid. Once you purchase a license, you own it outright, and have no ongoing payment obligations. Licenses are sold in 1, 2, 3, and 4 year terms, with pricing discounts available for multi-year terms.

How are licenses sold?

Every BeaconGrid sensor (i.e., Outlet or Plug) needs a license to function, and the number of sensors of a given product family cannot exceed the number of licenses (e.g. if you have 100 plug sensor licenses, you can have up to 100 plug sensors in your organization.)

Do I need to buy a new license whenever I buy new hardware?

Depends. Whenever you increase the number of sensors in your organization, you must purchase additional licenses. If you are purchasing a replacement hardware device (e.g. because the original was lost or damaged, or you wish to upgrade to a newer model), you can use the new device with your previously purchased license. The device being replaced will be deactivated.

What happens if I add new devices and licenses to an existing deployment?

If you make multiple purchases, you will have multiple license expiration dates. If you allow a portion of your licenses to expire without purchasing a renewal, you must remove the corresponding number of sensors from your organization such that the total number of devices is no larger than the number of valid licenses.

When does a license term begin?

License terms begin on the date of purchase (not date that hardware devices are activated).

What happens after my license term expires?

If you wish to continue using the service, you can purchase a new license which will work with your existing hardware. If you do not wish to continue using the service, you are under no obligation to renew your license.

Will I be notified before my license expires?

Yes. BeaconGrid will notify you well in advance of your license expiring.

Are licenses transferable?

Licenses are not transferable between customer accounts.

Do tags like Ring and Card require a license?

No, Ring and Cards do not require a license.

How many sensors do I need for asset tracking in my facility?

Hard to say. Given the nature of RF signals and the environmental makeup of facility, providing an accurate count is hard. Rather, we recommend trying our starter kits for real-world estimates.
